Notes on single screen operation and the DATAPATH Single Screen Utilities..
Monitor Configuration:
In single screen operation, a multisync monitor is required.
Configuration information for NEC, Hitachi and Eizo multisync
monitors is provided. Multisync monitors seem very
particular about the sync timings.
Utilities:
qtype.exe - display the board type and its current settings
seeqpc.exe - disable VGA and enable Q-PC, single screen
seevga.exe - disable Q-PC and enable VGA, single screen
seeboth.exe - enable Q-PC and VGA, dual screen
qmode.exe - set the operating mode of the board
These utilities are applicable to any type of Q-PC graphics board.
Some functions are not supported by all boards. You will be told
if your board does not support a particular function.
All these utilities take the following option:
-q <qpc_number>
This selects the first, second, etc, Q-PC display in your system. Note
that the hardware characteristics driver must be installed for this
option to work correctly. It is unlikely that more than four Q-PC
boards will ever be supported.
Apart from QMODE, these utilites have no parameters.
QMODE takes one parameter, an integer representing the new mode.
For a QPC board, the values are
1 == DMA on DREQ, 2 == external enable,
4 == swap memory map, 8 == Q-PC enable.
These values may be added together, to change several bits at once.
For other boards, some bits change meaning. You will be able
to deduce this from the messages printed out.
The mode is set. The board powers up in mode 0.
SEEQPC, SEEVGA, SEEBOTH only work if the single screen link
(VGA feed through) is fitted.
SEEBOTH is useful for enabling dual screen operation with out changing
the links on the board. You have to plug a screen into the VGA video
connector, instead of the Q-PC board. If you leave the wiring set for
single screen operation, you will get very confused.
Note that the Q-PC board hardware resets to VGA mode. If you reboot by
ALT-CTRL-DEL you will not hardware reset the board. If the board was in
Q-PC mode you will not see the boot messages until you run QINIT or
QMODE 0 or SEEVGA.
